| ½ tsp baking powder | |
| ½ tsp fine sea salt | |
| 1 tsp ground cinnamon | |
| ½ tsp ground nutmeg (freshly grated if possible) | |
| ¼ tsp ground cloves | |
| ¼ tsp ground ginger | |
| 150 g (1 cup) semisweet chocolate chips (or chunks) |

Directions

Brown the butter
In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir until it foams and turns golden with brown flecks. Remove from heat, pour into a bowl, and cool 5–10 minutes.

Whisk browned butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
Add pumpkin puree, sourdough discard, egg yolk, and vanilla. Whisk until well combined.

In another bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger.

Stir dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.

The dough will be soft and slightly sticky. Cover and chill at least 1 hour (or overnight).

Scoop ~2 tbsp portions (about 45 g each), roll into balls, and place 2 inches apart.
